King.com

a royal hoax?

www.web20-poker.com by trommsdorff + drüner www.web20-poker.com by trommsdorff + drüner King.com (formerly midasplayer.com) is a UK based gaming community. In fact, it is the world’s largest skill gaming site and it is live since August 2003. (“skill” meaning it is legal as opposed to “gambling” which is not - at least in the US).Online Gaming is a growing market – it is fun, it is easy and allows players to make new contacts within the community. You have to be 18 to play so this is a community for grownups.King.com matches players and has them compete for jewels that they can collect and display in their profile. You need them (the jewels) if you want to use the other features of the site, a personal blog, photo album, animated messaging, and custom made avatars being among the things to be earned. Interested in playing? You can register for free, get a 5 $ credit and can “practice”. Pretty soon, you are induced to upgrade to Gold membership. It allows you to participate in tournaments for money but of course you need to deposit money into an account, first. So far, not different from a Casino. The “terms & agreements” section of king.com makes a difference, though:

There are several fees such as a 1$ withdrawal fee, $1 per 30 days inactivity fee (that is if you have less than 5 completed cash games) and the best: “after an inactivity fee is charged, we may require that an additional deposit be made before the next 30-day period ends, or we may close the account” – Wow! That’s what I call handling the power law of participation or alternatively a long way to addiction.Of course people agree to these terms when they join, so in principle, there is nothing to complain about (ever heard about “ethics”?) Make sure you read these terms carefully, they are really something!A number of complaints in forums and blogs suggest that King.com follows a rather arbitrary business policy. People complain about their accounts being closed once they decided to withdraw their money, the refusal of King.com to pay them out and some other weird practices. I just reported this website to the BBB because of the unfairness and problems they are always having with the website. I am continuesly asking for refunds because of a game crashing or being so slow. They have yet to refund me for this time. They always have technical problems and the fairness of the games are horrible…its a rip off
