Have you ever imagined doing crazy things? Thought about driving a race car? Jumping off a plane? Sailing across the ocean? Well, anyone of us got ideas what to do with the time being on mother earth and one step to achieve goals is to write them down.
The guys of 43Things also thought the same a created a social networking site where people can share their personal goals in life. These goals or hopes are interpreted as tags and analyzed by a lexer to then connect to other people who have submitted similar objectives. You get inspirations from other members if you don’t have a clue what to do with your own life. Moreover, it allows you to connect to similar minded people or add your list to your blogs.
43Things is entirely tag based, meaning that intersecting goals will be discovered by looking at other peoples’ tags that are already posted. This architecture is a very good example of the folksonomies principle. The page is founded by Amazon and hence it received some criticism. So instead of keeping it as a secret 43Things talked about it, ensuring Amazon would not use it as marketing platform. Although commercial interests might be inhered, the site sees some remarkable growth. On April 27, 2007, 43Things reached the 1,000,000 registered users mark.
I think this is remarkable since it is another indication that we are moving towards a society of radical transparency. What do you think?
Here’s an example of the all-time most popular goals: All-Time Most Popular Goals:
1. lose weight 23153 people
2. stop procrastinating 17728 people
